Following a string of military setbacks, Moscow named Sergey Surovikin as the new commander of the Ukraine offensive on Saturday.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced the appointment of General Sergey Surovikin “commander of the Joint Grouping of Forces in the areas of the special military operation,”

Russia suffered a recent setback. According to Russia state news agency  RIA Novosti The fire broke out on the Kerch bridge, which connects mainland Russia to the Russian-controlled Crimean Peninsula. Traffic was halted on the road-and-rail bridge, which was built in 2018 to connect Crimea to Russia’s transportation network.

The restoration of the Crimean bridge will begin immediately following the conclusion of the investigation, according to Crimea’s leader, Sergei Aksyonov.

Today I will take part in the work of the government commission to find out the causes of what happened on the Crimean bridge and eliminate the consequences of the emergency. Measures will be developed to eliminate damage and restore the destroyed. Work will begin immediately after the end of the actions of the investigating authorities,”

The National Anti-Terrorism Committee had previously reported on a truck explosion on the Crimean bridge. Following the railway section of the crossing, seven fuel tanks caught fire as a result of the incident.

The bridge’s traffic has been temporarily halted. Tours by train and bus in both directions have been cancelled.
