SoftBank and May Mobility have entered a Partnership Agreement for developing autonomous driving service using SoftBank’s 5G network in Japan. May Mobility is based in Michigan, US and is a leader in autonomous vehicle technology having presence in North America and Japan

Autonomous driving is emerging as a key mobility infrastructure in Japan. It is expected to solve the problems like reducing traffic congestion, reducing road accidents and provide mobility solutions to aging communities.

Government of Japan is planning to implement nationwide autonomous driving by 2025. For achieving the vision, Japan had earlier announced roadmap for Public-Private Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Initiative in 2021.

SoftBank have been actively working in the area of 5G Technology. Research and development in the 5G space is expected to solve various social issues of the Japanese society as well as the globe by devising innovative technology.  Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) is set to emerge as a key mobility solution driven by 5Gappligation, in collaboration with Government and Corporations.
