Finland and Sweden have filed their applications for NATO membership, according to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. President Biden has welcomed the applications and has expressed his desire to work with NATO allies and Congress to expedite the process.

President Biden will invite Finland’s President and Sweden’s Prime Minister to the White House to discuss the way forward. The three presidents will also get the opportunity to swap notes on our joint efforts to defend Ukraine against Russia’s invasion.

According to Mr. Sullivan, it will be a historic and watershed moment in European security because Finland and Sweden have a long history of neutrality and will be joining the world’s most powerful defensive alliance. Finland and Sweden provide strong capabilities and a track record of working together on security issues.

After that meeting concludes, President Biden will visik Republic of Korea and Japan.

On the 18th of May, Finland and Sweden formally applied to join the NATO alliance’s 30 members. Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist was honoured with an enhanced honour cordon at the Pentagon by Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III. According to Mr Hultqvist, things have altered since Sweden’s previous neutrality stance.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin, is waging an unprovoked attack on a peaceful and democratic Ukraine. In Europe, a war is raging on a scale not seen since World War II. Mr Hultqvist believes that now is the time for Europe and North America’s democracies to unite against Russia’s aggression.

Joining NATO will help Sweden’s armed forces in improve their training and interoperability.
Mr. Hultqvist stated that now is the moment to unite in order to safeguard Europe and North America’s security. Secretary Austin said that United States defence relationship with Sweden remains strong. US look forward to Sweden’s contributions to the NATO alliance.

Turkey has been opposing Finland and Sweden’s entry in NATO. However, the bigger question remains, what repercussion it will have on the European as well as Global security. What will be the strategic Russian response on the Finland and Sweden inclusion in the alliance? Will it lay the foundation for next and renewed wave of conflict for dominance between US and Russia on European soil and elsewhere?
