Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo India Visit Set to Further Strengthen India-US Relationship

Wally Adeyemo emphasised the importance of further deepening the US-India relationship, including ongoing engagement and cooperation in the Quad and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework. Deputy Secretary Adeyemo emphasised that both countries can maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific that brings greater prosperity to citizens of both countries while also strengthening supply chain resiliency between the US and India

Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo visited India for three days starting from Aug 24th. His visit is going to strengthen US India relationship and may help in building consensus on global issues including Indo-Pacific, Russia Ukraine War and economy.  

On August 26, Deputy Secretary met with government officials in New Delhi, India, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, and other key officials.

During the meeting, Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo emphasised the importance of further deepening the US-India relationship, including ongoing engagement and cooperation in the Quad and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework. Deputy Secretary Adeyemo emphasised that both countries can maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific that brings greater prosperity to citizens of both countries while also strengthening supply chain resiliency between the US and India.

Issues related to global food insecurity and impact of high energy prices on global economy were also discussed.

Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo emphasised the urgency of bring an end to Russia Ukraine war. Ongoing war in causing inflation and US is building consensus for finding ways to soften the escalating energy prices

Deputy Secretary Adeyemo emphasised the importance of well-supplied global energy markets in expanding access to renewable energy sources and gradually decreasing reliance on fossil fuels.
