According to a White House press briefing note, the Mexican government has extradited Nestor Isidro Perez Salaz, also known as “El Nini,” to the United States, for subjecting El Nini for trial in US Court on charges related to drug trafficking.
El Nini has been playing significant role in the infamous Sinaloa Cartel, one of the world’s deadliest drug trafficking organisations. The United States has accused him with illegal fentanyl trafficking, as well as murder, torture, and kidnapping of countless competitors, witnesses, and others.
In 2023, the DEA confiscated over 80 million fentanyl-laced counterfeit tablets and approximately 12,000 pounds of fentanyl powder. The 2023 seizures are equivalent to almost 381 million fatal doses of fentanyl.
US President Biden thanked thanked Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for his decision to extradite and said that “Our governments will continue to work together to attack the fentanyl and synthetic drug epidemic that is killing so many people in our homelands and globally, and to bring to justice the criminals and organizations producing, smuggling, and selling these lethal poisons in both of our countries”.
Attorney General of US Department of Justice also thanked Mexican Government.
