This weekend Nancy Pelosi is leading Congressional delegation to the Indo-Pacific and will make stops at Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea & Japan for discussing and furthering shared interests & values.

If she stops at Taipei, it will be a major diplomatic tussle between United States and China. Answering to question on how to stop China from attacking Taiwan, Speaker Pelosi said that Taiwan is a major issue.  She referred President Biden remarks and drawing inference that military was afraid that her plane may get shot down by China.

Earlier this week on Thursday, President Biden spoke with President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). 

The call was part of the Biden Administration’s efforts to maintain and deepen communication channels between the US and the PRC, as well as to responsibly manage differences and collaborate on areas where US and China’s interests align.

The call follows a conversation between the two leaders on March 18th, as well as a series of conversations between high-level US and PRC officials.

The two presidents discussed various bilateral issues as well as regional and global issues, and they tasked their teams to continue following up on conversation, particularly on climate change and health security.

President Biden emphasised that the US policy on Taiwan has not changed, and that the US strongly opposes unilateral efforts to change the status quo or undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

Xi has warned Biden that supporting Taiwan is dangerous, and the US should not do so. Xi told Biden that supporting Taiwan is like playing with fire.
